Toki Shift to top of Round 1 vote totals.
Anime Saimoe Tournament has started it’s elimination phase with Round 1 finished in Blocks A and B. For Round 1 I would be posting after the block results are settled as I do not want to bog down the post with long excessive look at each match. Readers could go to ‘Saimoe Update Blog’ or ‘Moetron’ which are giving day to day updates for every match. I would only start after Round 2 commences.

These are the results for Block A Round 1. So Saki opens up the massive Saki campaign with a win right from the bat but there was a close scare by Maho of RO-KYU-BU! though. Other Saki aces had not much problem with Yuuki and Koromo mopping up to proceed to Round 2. Miki was the surprise as iMAS did not do so well in prelims but she actually knocked down Tomoka Minato of RO-KYU-BU! by an impressive score to book a Round 2 berth facing Amae. Kobato the only non Saki ace in these blocks did well too to proceed onto Round 2 and so far this block is progressing as I would have predicted. No major upsets so far with the exception of the Miki-Tomoka incident.
A Block Round 2 Picks and Predictions:

For Block B the headliners is of course the two new S Tier (Championship Calibre) contestants namely Akaza Akari and Onjouji Toki. Akarin is poised to take on which is arguably Saki’s best ace this year Toki as mentioned in earlier post about the draws. In fact Akarin is mentioned to be one of the few non Saki contestants to spoil the Saki party this year. Both totally overwhelmed their opponents and if my predictions goes correct both shouldn’t face much problem reaching Block B finals which we will see a match worthy of actually being the tournament finals. Of course there is 2010 Saimoe Champion Azunyan who finally bounced back from last year’s disastrous first round exit and Misaki Mei whom is actually surprisingly strong. Potential challengers for the tipped Toki-Akarin finals but I honestly doubt it anything will derail the two from meeting each other in the block finals.
B Block Round 2 Picks and Predictions:
Picks: Oshino Shinobu, Onjouji Toki, Nakano Azusa, Mikazuki Yozora
Predictions: Minase Iori, Onjouji Toki, Akaza Akari, Misaki Mei
Note: I bolded three names (Onjouji Toki, Misaka Mei and Akaza Akarin) as they have garnered the top 3 votes (417, 325 and 324) for Block AB. Just some statistics.
Saki is really mopping up the floor by having all of their so called ace calibre characters advancing to Round 2 in this Block AB. Amae Koromo, Kataoka Yuuki and Onjouji Toki sort of blew through their matches with only Saki surviving a scare but it was sufficient to prevent an early upset of the year unlike last year (Mikoto VS Homura remember?). Personally I am fine with this since I am a Saki supporter but even with the record numbers Saki is sending into the competition they are not as insurmountable compared to PMMM last year. Could 2012 be Sakimoe like 2011’s Saimadoka is still too early to tell but one thing is for sure Saki is a faction to look out for this year.
Haganai is one other faction to look out for. A potential Saki wrecker along with Yuru Yuri it could seized the coveted prize right under Saki again. Akarin is obviously one of the strongest rivals for the crown too and whats best for her if she could knock down Saki best Ace this year Toki to secure her Elite Eight berth? Kobato will also play this role in Block A potentially shutting out a Saki Elite Eight berth from Blocks AB.
Since its a personal take I am making it clear I am supporting Toki and Saki series as a whole. It would be great to see Toki winning it all but then again Saimoe is never predictable.
Who will win the coveted championship after these tussles? Only Toki will tell~
