November Updates (AFA,ISML,AST)

Firstly so sorry for the severe lack of updates. Been too busy with my life and hence can’t find the time to update stuff.

Ok so this blog is gonna be quite picture less on my part as I am actually updating this from not my own computer. Hence no pictures until I update this again. Don’t worry gonna quickly finish up the posts on ISML and AST ASAP once I get back to my own computer. Most of you should know the respective winners by now but I am still gonna finish up the two tourny since I have been covering them from the start.

Anime Festival Asia 2012

This year’s Singapore’s AFA2012 was held at Singapore Expo which from what I known was shifted from Suntec Convention Centre. Apparently the size of the festival has grown since it’s debut 5 years ago.

However! I did not attend it for the past 4 years since when it first started in 2007 I am still not into the anime scene and only around 2009 did I started enjoying and be more immersed in anistuff.

Well so anyway, I labelled this as a MUST ATTEND event as I wanted to see fripSide live, yes LIVE right here in Singapore. As honestly they lack the star power to pull in a profitable crowd for them to host a stand alone concert in Singapore this is as close as a great live I can ever see for my own eyes unless I travel over to Japan next time for their lives haha. However I also wanted to experience AFA for the first time since my anistuff craze started thus I was determined to attend it.

Festival Grounds

Cutting the travel details and nitpicks short, I arrived at the hall just before they started admitting people and the crowd was real big. As expected lots of cosplayers too and loads of excited people. As for myself I met up with my friends after collecting my tickets for Anisong Concert and Festival grounds and entered the festival grounds itself.

The grounds itself was very wide and expansive as expected for the expo venue. To cut down the long story and details I am gonna list down the places I went and had prioritize beforehand listed below:

Good Smile Company

LisAni Booth

Danny Choo’s Booth

MUSE, Latendo, Proware, AFA Shop

Good Smile Company

Not exactly by the actual GSC team itself unlike AFAMY but it was by it’s certified distributor in Singapore. Nevertheless the experience seems to be just as nice as shown on Mikatan’s blog when she went to Malaysia. They showcase ultimate Madoka as expected along side with the Magical Quartet which seems really impressive. Some other figmas and figures too but didn’t have time to linger too much since there was just SO much people around. Bought Sakura Kyouko figurine here too which cost me back around $120SGD. Perhaps I could have gotten her cheaper in Akiba itself but I didn’t want to lug home unnecessary boxes again like my first trip to Japan.

Nothing much on here just that I am truly impressed my Ultimate Madoka’s great detail and finish as expected from GSC. Her high price though will bar me from purchasing her.

LisAni Booth

Initially this booth wasn’t of big interest to me until it captured my attention with a large TV screening past LisAni lives. Watched ALTIMA, LiSA, Mami Kawada and Sphere while hoping to see fripSide appear especially since they are screening HD footage. Instead I got treated to something even better, LisAni actually is going to have a live interview of Sat in the very booth. Being a fan I waited and finally managed to see him real life haha. Quite a number of fans (I hope?) too but from what I know LiSA’s appearance attracted far more people.

Nevertheless, I was thrilled and we had a short Q&A session with him after he discussed with the interviewer he is in Singapore for a live for the very first time and liked the place a lot. Apparently he tried Chicken Rice too which is a specialty of Singapore. For those that followed his twitter you all would have realized it too. He went to Boon Tong Keng which sells really nice chicken rice so for non Singaporeans do have a try when you all get a chance to visit the city state.

Since I really wish to dedicate a full post to fripSide to do them justice I will be posting the entire Q&A and interview on another new post right after this. Sorry about that!

Danny Choo’s Booth

Anyone that know Danny Choo will also know his self created mascot Mirai Suenaga. Promoting Japan through anime he is well known in foreign and even Japan anime circle. Doubling his role here in AFA as a MC too in Stage activities he also set up a booth selling Mirai merchandise. Bought a Hiragana poster as I wanted something meaningful yet also anime at the same time to hand on the empty space in my room. They also sold the Moekana cards here too but I didn’t get it due to budget constrains. Long queue here and many were taking pictures of the posters and the booth itself. Really good and fast service as expected and I hope it would be a permanent fixture of AFA.

.

MUSE, Latendo, Proware, AFA Shop

These are actually shops or rather huge booths selling anime merchandise such as character goods. Queues were short during the first 1-2 hours of opening but the longs exploded after lunch. Managed to enter MUSE and Latendo during the mentioned first 1-2 hours and purchased a couple of Mikoto merchandise that I can’t find at all in Singapore normally. Problem is I can’t bear to use them haha. Bought Mami Tomoe GSC figurine too for also $120 SGD as I didn’t notice GSC booth itself was also selling her (hiding behind Kyouko’s boxes) but it didnt matter though. Hence I am left with Miki to complete the quartet but I am pondering whether should I get her since she seems to be the most (pardon me Madoka fans) uninspiring one of the quartet. Maybe I would this time round when I travel to Akiba.

Proware was selling standard character goods as usual but more of K-On! and Infinite Stratos. It seems like Singapore AFA always seems to sell off last season’s anime goods rather then this season’s but that’s understandable since there is significant lag time compared to in Japan. Didn’t grab anything even though I am a fan of Charlotte as there wasn’t any goods that were worth buying in my opinion. I am still looking for a GSC Charlotte figure! Maybe I would grab the Alter one afterall in Akiba.

AFA Shop didn’t really sell much impressive stuff save for standard AFA themed merchandise. They did sell flow’s album along with fripSide’s infinite synthesis. Bought a fripSide orange lightstick here for $8 which was kinda exorbitant but the fripSide logo was too hard to not own it.

.

Stage & Anisong Concert

I will be continuing this in the next post since it encompass the parts of fripSide I wish to cover. So I will be signing off here for this post and I will post the little pictures I have after I have them on my computer.
